With Copilot in OneDrive, you can select up to 5 files and compare the differences without having to open and sort through countless files in your OneDrive.

Copilot's new file comparison feature allows users to analyze up to 5 selected files simultaneously. This powerful tool enables quick and efficient identification of differences and similarities across multiple documents.

Note: Copilot in OneDrive is currently available on OneDrive Web for commercial users only.

Key benefits and scenarios

  • Contract analysis - Compare different versions of contracts or agreements to spot changes and ensure all parties are on the same page.

  • Job application review - Easily compare multiple resumes or cover letters to identify standout candidates.

  • Document versioning - Track changes across different drafts of a document, making collaboration and revision processes smoother.

  • Legal document review - Identify discrepancies between related legal documents or across jurisdictions.

  • Financial report analysis - Compare financial statements from different periods or entities to spot trends and anomalies.

Note: Videos and images are currently not supported by Copilot in OneDrive.

Use Copilot to compare files

  1. Go to http://onedrive.com and sign in with your work or school account.

  2. Select up to 5 files that you want to compare. To activate Copilot, you can do either option of the following:

    • Click on the Copilot button in the command bar and choose Compare files.

    • Select up to 5 files and click on the More actions (...) menu > Copilot > Compare files.

  3. The Copilot panel will appear, and you can choose to continue the chat to ask more questions. 

The generated response will vary depending on the contents of your files. The Compare files feature can detect the differences between files such as date, time, title, author, last modified by, last modified time, content summary, location, key participants, and etc.

Tip: Provide as much detail as possible in your questions - the more specific you are, the better Copilot can assist you.
